I noticed something about people telling me that this is an instance of stupidity – not racism. But can racism ever be intelligent? People seem to assume that these two concepts are isolated from each other and that I should accept stupidity. I know I can’t singlehandedly end racism, but I’m going to keep on trucking along and fight it the best I can.

Sadly, we do not live in a post-racial society.

Even if we did, though, that would not mean we lived in a post-ignorance society. Dumbasses are still more than a dime a dozen.
“Do you speak English?” isn’t so much racism as stupidity.
I guess when you get down to it, though, it might be justified as a not-a-Kentucky-redneck-ism, which is for most intents and purposes racism.
